When drivers take Trailer Trailing with me, for B+E Test, they usually only require 6 hours of training to pass with under 4 driver faults!
Over 35 B+E Tests this year all but 2 passed first time!
You may not be aware but if you passed your driving test on or after 1st January 1997 you are required to pass an additional trailer test in order to tow trailers over 750Kgs. Your insurance may not cover you if do not have this test.
• A car licence category B only covers up to 3.5 tonnes.
• It is recommended that you do not exceed 85% of the towing vehicles unladen weight, but you must not exceed its unladen weight. You also must not exceed the towing capacity of the towing vehicle.

In order to gain category B + E entitlement on your licence, you’ll need to pass a practical trailer towing test in addition to your normal driving test. You are eligible to take the towing (category E) test at the age of 17 but you must first hold your car (category B) driving licence.
The towing test, based on the HGV driving test, will take around an hour and includes an off-road section where you’ll be required to demonstrate your reversing skills and a controlled stop. The on-road section will incorporate urban areas and may include dual carriageways. Your eyesight will be checked and the examiner will also ask you to connect and disconnect the trailer.
Our ½ day course (3 hours) comprises of a ½ day of instruction the B+E Test will be taken the following day subject to availability. This course would be best suited for someone who just needs a refresher lesson before taking to the roads or has recently taken and been unfortunate enough to fail the test.
Our 1 day course (6 hours) comprises of one day of instruction. The B+E Test will be taken the following day subject to availability. This course would be best suited for someone who has been towing trailers on a regular basis at work in a yard.
Please deduct £10 off course if using own vehicle.
You are permitted to practice, on the road, with a laden or unladen trailer provided you display ‘L’ plates to the front and rear of the towing vehicle and trailer and are accompanied by a person who has either passed their driving test pre-1997, or held their ‘B+E’ licence for over three years.
You pay the test fee of £115.00 when you book your test, so it’s important that you’re confident you are ready to take the test before making your booking.
